Scheduling
Sessions take place Monday-Thursday with start times between 2pm and 5pm (Monday/Tuesday) and 2pm and 7pm (Wednesday/Thursday) in accordance with Seattle Public Library hours.
Session scheduling is dependent on frequency, and location, as well as availability. All six sessions are scheduled as part of student on-boarding (prior to first session/payment). Student scheduling is initially first-come, first-serve, but we do take account of your preferences. When new time slots become available, pre-existing students are notified in accordance with their preferences.

Rescheduling Policy
We’re a small business, and sincerely appreciate your consideration and communication! Consistency is key to our availability for all students. The following is our cancelation policy as of February 2025:
-Sessions can be rescheduled with 48+ hours notice, availability pending. This is limited to two rescheduled sessions per student. Subsequent reschedulings will be subject to rescheduling fees. (We don’t like to charge these so what we’re really saying is, let’s keep everything well on track!)-Sessions rescheduled within 48 hours will be subject to a 15% rescheduling fee.
-Sessions rescheduled within 24 hours will be subject to a 30% rescheduling fee.

What do sessions look like?
Each week, students will work toward polished final essays. Each session follows a similar structure:
- Homework review and self-critique- Lesson, which varies from studying examples of essay “hooks” to strategies for organization and revision
- Guided practice, including writing prompts and editing techniques
- Assignment and goals for independent work
Within this structure, the content and pace of each session is adaptable based on each student’s strengths, challenges, and interests.
-
Is there homework? How much?
Yes. We’ll do plenty of brainstorming, practice writing, and revision in our sessions, but this is ultimately your student’s work. The homework load starts off light (brainstorming ideas) and increases as student’s approach the full essay (writing and editing multiple paragraphs). Given that we’ll meet once every two weeks, assignments shouldn’t exceed one hour/week. (For perfectionistic students, I’ll even recommend a cutoff timer!)
Note: the structure and duration of the curriculum helps students avoid procrastination. Students write their essays over time, revising and adding depth from week to week.
-
Does my student need to have a list of schools prior to writing their essays?
Short answer: No. Many schools have similar prompts, and the Common App has the option of using any personal essay on any topic, so long as it communicates preparedness, leadership skills, unique interests, etc.
Long answer: It can be helpful! If your student has their heart set on a specific school, or even a specific type of school (big state school vs. small liberal arts school) we can cater their work to individual admissions committees.
-
Why do you recommend a fixed number of sessions?
When it comes to college admissions essays, it’s best to set specific goals and timelines. Limiting sessions keeps students focused, engaged, and able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
That said, each student is unique. If your student requires an individualized timeline, adding more sessions is always an option. The goal remains the same: memorable, polished, and confident writing.
-
Do you tutor academic writing?
At this time, tutoring services are tailored toward writing that blends the personal with the professional/academic, including admissions essays, cover letters, personal statements, and business copywriting.
However, many of these lessons, including those in grammar, mechanics, revision, and organization, are applicable to academic and professional writing.
